Miniature Monday - Diva, the Blessed

Hey everybody, today we're going to take a look at Diva, the Blessed. This model was released last year as part of Reaper's anniversary line of models. Each model was only available during a certain month, and then no longer to be seen again.

Diva, the Blessed was available during the month of September, 2017. Anyone that knows me well, knows how much I dislike the idea of exclusive models and the idea of showing them off, only to get folk's hopes up and have them find out that it is no longer available. This one fit a character concept I had perfectly though and after finding out that she was no longer available, I was lucky enough to be able to snag this one a month or so later at the local games shop.

Let's take a look at her!

I decided to pick up this mini for a few different reasons.

The first being, I wanted her to be a priest of Lhankor Mhy, the Gloranthian God of Knowledge. This model worked out perfectly for that because of the tome she is holding.

The second reason was that I liked her breastplate and other metal bits.Sure she has boobplate, but the was the hip plates curve along with the shoulder's and the chest piece. I was a perfect opportunity to practice my high contrast TMM on those surface shapes.

Finally, I wanted to try out varying the different types of cloth and leather and the folding the robe, along with her book and gloves were a great playground to mess around on.

She was really fun to work on and I think she has one of the better faces that I've done. The highlighting on the face really draws you in and makes sure that it is the main focal point. Also the shadowing was really fun to work on, even if at first it felt like I was giving her 5 o' clock shadow for a bit.

I was pleased with the way the metals turned out, though now I look at them and can see some spots where I could improve on them.

The fabrics were painted with a mix of crosshatching and normal shading/highlighting... if I remember correctly. I'm not 100% sure though, because as of this writing it as been many months since she's been painted.

That's pretty much it on Diva though. Sadly, our RuneQuest campaign ended, when our GM couldn't devote the time to the game. The character I had planned to use this mini for was only played once and that wasn't with this mini.

But, she was fun to paint regardless. I did end up with some clouding issues due to a bad can of dullcote. Some signs of it still show. But I managed to salvage it and it looks ok.

That's it for now. Until next time, you can catch me on Twitter and Instagram.
