Wizardry in Progress 2/20/19

It was a fairly light week this week, as I was only able to really work on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. But, I was able to knock down some more of the pile, in prep for Adepticon.

Let's take a look!

Barbossa Progress
This week, the only progress I made on Barbossa was painting the exterior of his coat.

For this I used some very thin Stegadon Scale Green mixed with Black and layered it on over the white and black primer.

The reason for this was to not only get the paint into the recesses of the corduroy on the jacked, but also to allow the white primer to act as pre-highlighting/weathering.

Once I was happy wtih the layering of the base coat, I washed it with Nuln Oil and let it dry fully, naturally without using the hair dryer.

The highlighting was done by mixing in white with the previous mix of SSG and Black, rather than adding in more SSG before highlighting.

I really like how it came out and now I can move on to the leather belting and other sections!

Relic Contemptor Dreadnought
Tonight I am playing a 2,000 point game with the Dreadnoughts, plus Kastelan Robots vs Necrons and in order to fill in the points I needed to paint up the other Contemptor Dreadnought.

I had picked this guy up at the same time as the previous Contemptor, and this one is the actual Relic model, the previous one was the basic model.

Most of his armor was painted on Sunday night, after I got home from board gaming. The rest of him was knocked out Monday night.

I'm actually surprised by how quickly he painted up, considering the details on him.

The hardest part of it all was all the iconography and the ribbon on his chest. I had to repaint that twice before I was happy with it.

With this fella done, the only thing left to paint is the Siege Dreadnought. But he's going back to the workshop. I'm not happy with his chest plating and want to rework him.

Mortis Dreadnought Leg Mural
Tuesday night I got the bug to update the Mortis Dreadnought with a leg mural.

I had previously wanted to do this while I was painting him earlier, but didn't have the time. Last night I decided to knock it out and get it done.

This mural is based on a piece of art in the Deathwatch codex. It features an Ultramarine facing off against a Tyranid Warrior. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to put it on a dreadnought, I just needed the proper space.

Originally I had planned to span it across both shinguards. But then decided that it would look strange like that and opted to do only the left leg instead.

The result turned out to be really good, and I was sad to weather it up. But, it needed to be done in order to fit in with the rest of it.

Doing these shrunken versions of official art is super fun and it is a major challenge. There's a couple more pieces in the codex I'd like to copy. But we'll see what happens, and if I can pull them off.

But, that's it for now! The Dreadnoughts are fully finished and Adepticon ready. Barbossa is nearing the finish line too. Once he's done, I'll be knocking out the display board for the Dreads. Then its on to new projects!

Until next time, you can catch me on Twitter and Instagram. Check out YouTube for the Let's Paint series and other videos.

If you like what I do and want to support the site and my painting endeavors, you can do so over on Ko-fi. All it takes is $3 and it's much appreciated. Also, you can buy The Brush Wizard shirts and such over on my Teespring shop, where you'll find a growing selection of shirts and other goodies.
