Throwback Thursday - Space Marine Sergeant 2008 Limited Edition

It's Thursday! That means we jump into the time-stream and go back to revisit some of my older miniatures and projects. It's Throwback Thursday! This week, we're taking a look at the 2008 web exclusive Space Marine Sergeant. This limited edition Space Marine was given away for free with all Games Workshop web orders over a certain threshold in 2008 and thanks to a different project, I was lucky enough to get my hands on it. I didn't know much about Warhammer 40k at the time, so it was  bit of a challenge figuring out the legit markings/colors/etc.

I decided to go with the Ultramarines for this guy's chapter, for the same reasons I did the Dreadnought as an Ultra, they just seem to be the most prevalent and newbie friendly. Of course, now-a-days I would more than likely have painted him up as a Blood Angel instead. But I don't have the heart to strip him down and redo him.

As much as I love doing conversions, he doesn't have any alterations to him, as I wanted to keep him as unaltered as possible. Instead, I opted for battle damage through paint techniques as cutting arms or weapons and swapping them was out of the question, since he is a limited edition.

I enjoyed painting this figure, once I got an idea on what I was supposed to do. I do have a Codex for Space Marines and a old guide that Games Workshop published on Painting Space Marines, so they helped a bit. Though, I'm still not sure if I was right and I'm sure a veteran 40k player will point out inaccuracies, and if any of my warmonger followers read this, I would love to hear it.
