SDE WIP: Working on the Ironscales

I've started work on the Kobold Ironscales. I was really leaning toward green lizardmen Kobolds but finally decided against it. The main reason is that I'm planning on painting the turtles in Roxor in skin colors akin to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with each "class" of turtle in the Rocktop Gang having skin color matching a different TMNT turtle. I figured that the amount of green possible on the board might look stupid and the Kobolds need to be able to stand out from other monster types. I then struggled with ideas on what colors to paint them and thought of maybe purples, blues, yellows, browns. I was trying to stay away from the "official" reds coloring, but finally I decided just to go with red and be done with it. This way I can continue working and not end up with setbacks.

Work as of last night. The Armor is just base coated at the moment.

The plan of all the Kobold's metal armor is to have it look rusted/tarnished. These are monsters and I highly doubt their gear would be clean and pristine. It's been awhile since I've done rusty metal though, so I'll have to look up some info on it and give myself a refresher. I'm going to mostly stick to steel colors on the monsters, but I'm leaning toward a bronze border on the Ironscale's shields.

As for the shield, I'm going to possibly paint the border bronze, the field is going to be black (as pure black as I can get it), and the dragon head is going to be done in my bone colors. This will create an emblem representing my version of Starfire's head.

On another note, I double checked my shipment on Roxor and it should be here around next Tuesday. I'm hoping I'll be able to keep the pace and finish the Kobolds by the middle of next week. Then I can start on Roxor. I'll need to double check my paints and make sure I have all the colors needed for painting fire.

I can't wait to play this game with a fully painted set. I'll just make sure I varnish the crap out of these things so I don't have to worry about chipping.
